Here are some of the things that people have said about Banks Cottage over the years:

Truly one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been. We loved it. (Fiona Baker

Banks Cottage is cosy and romantic. It is in a tiny old village right in the middle of the Lake District, but enough off-the-beaten-track to enjoy a calm atmosphere even on busy summer days. Best memories? The beautiful dark skies at night with as many stars as you can imagine and some inspiring walks on the hills nearby. We had a splendid time, just fantastico! (Luigi Minerva)

Snug, central and refreshingly inexpensive – the best possible place to stay in the Lake District. (Andrew Darwin)

We have many happy memories of our holiday at Banks Cottage: after a hard day following in Wainwright’s footsteps it is a delight to return to a snug cottage tucked against the hillside for a leisurely bath and a glass of wine by the fire. Having passed through three generations of the same family, there is a wonderful ambience about the furniture, pictures and books that is far removed from the sterility of most holiday lets: it is a real home from home. (Julian Murray)

Always blissful. Whether it has been sunshine or snow, returning to Banks Cottage is the perfect end to a day’s tough, or not so tough, walking. (Linnet Cotterill)
